For parents and families
Parents & Families Counselling
Individual counselling to help you tackle the obstacles school avoidance brings into your home.
We work through the feelings it raises and build practical strategies that bring calm back to the morning.
From there, we set realistic goals around supporting your child back to school or onto an alternative pathway.
One on one counselling
Individual counselling helps you tackle the obstacles or problems that might be preventing you or your family from reaching your goals.
As a parent with a child who is school-avoidant, counselling can help you:
- Communicate and process the feelings your child’s school avoidance brings up. Guilt, anger, overwhelm, confusion, doubt or anything else.
- Learn techniques for practising self-care. You can’t effectively care for others while you’re struggling yourself. Modelling self-care also helps your child find balance and calm in their own life.
- Learn strategies that bring order and calm to your daily routine, ending the conflict-ridden morning starts.
- Set realistic goals around actions you might take to support your student back to school or onto an alternative pathway.
- A confidential space to share your challenges with an experienced counsellor.
Counselling is most powerful when paired with the KNOTS community. The opportunity to be in a group that truly “gets” you is priceless. Research consistently shows that group work and shared learning is overwhelmingly beneficial for both parents and school avoidant students.
Sessions run in person at Freedom Health & Wellness Centre in New Norfolk, online via Zoom or by phone. Pricing is on the Pricing page; sliding scale available if finances are tight.
